As a grand finale, Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier suite unfolds its intoxicating waltzes and fiery duets. Sweeter than Roses: Songs of Teta’s Garden is all about love, beauty, nature, childhood, innocence, heartbreak, and joy. This recital includes a Persian folk song written by Nicole’s dear friend, Leila Gottlieb Hedayati, music by Lebanese icon, Fairouz, and many other French, English, Italian, and German art songs. She is beyond excited to collaborate with James O’Malley Gorbea on guitar and Viviana Antonio on the cello as well. This recital is dedicated to Nicole’s family, Lebanon, and the many summers she has spent there throughout her life.

Like a shooting star, Franz Schubert blazed across music's sky for a brief 31 years, leaving behind over 1,000 works that transformed the Classical into the Romantic age.
Four programs spanning Schubert's creative career and variety of compositions offer a rich journey into one of music's most ethereal worlds. A fifth concert explores how the legacy of Schubert and composers in the two centuries following his death have re-worked and been inspired by his compositions.

Francis Poulenc combined oboe, bassoon, and piano in his 1926 Trio. The Poulenc Trio was formed in 2003 to further explore this instrumentation. Since then, they have commissioned 20 works. The last time they played at the Athenaeum was in 2010, and they’ll bring some newly commissioned works along with their signature piece.

In the sweltering summer heat of New Orleans, Blanche DuBois arrives seeking refuge — but what awaits is more volatile than she could have ever imagined. Hope flickers briefly when Blanche sets her sights on Stanley’s friend Mitch. But when Stanley shatters that hope with brutal force, Blanche’s grip on reality begins to unravel and desire turns destructive. With a searing, emotionally charged score, this operatic adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ famed play will leave audiences stunned and shaken.

She’s celebrating in style: to mark the 50th anniversary of her Lucerne stage debut, Anne-Sophie Mutter is popping the corks and performing three violin concertos and a solo piece in a single evening! And on top of that, she’s taking on the musical direction of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra herself — anything but an easygoing program. The works she has chosen are, for her, all “projects of the heart.” She introduced herself to the public with a Mozart concerto at her very first orchestral appearance at the age of nine, and Mozart also marked her first recording: the 1978 album with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Herbert von Karajan. André Previn, who was much more than just an artistic partner to her, composed numerous new works for Mutter, including his Violin Concerto No. 2 — one of 34 scores she has premiered so far. Among the most recent pieces she has launched is Likoo, a solo work by the Iranian composer Aftab Darvishi. It traces deep longings: the feelings of women who have lost their loved ones or their homeland, or who have to fight for their rights.
