For the final program of the season, every note awakens the soul, reaffirming music’s timeless power to guide us toward joy and meaning—even when none seems to be found. Led by celebrated BSO Choral Director James Burton, “Boston’s best professional chorus” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer) delivers a concert experience unlike any other in our season, showcasing the transcendent music of Bach, Brahms, Gesualdo, and more–reminding us that in music, we can rediscover hope.

New England Conservatory of Music

A meeting with the sublime Dixit Dominus by Handel, a work of remarkable vocal virtuosity and expressive power, making it one of the composer’s greatest choral masterpieces. Bach’s motet Jesu, meine Freude also belongs to the finest sacred repertoire of the entire Baroque era. Opening the program is a brief yet deeply moving motet by Bach’s predecessor at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig.

No festival would be complete without a generous sampling of Bach’s matchless vocal music, and our final concert How Brightly Shines will not disappoint. We’ll hear two settings of the beautiful chorale “Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern” (“How brightly shines the Morningstar”), one by Johann Kuhnau, Bach’s predecessor at the Thomas Kirche, and one by Bach himself. The artistry of guest soloist Yeree Suh will be featured in several arias, and there will be other cantatas to bring the festival to a joyous conclusion - not to be missed!

La Chapelle de Québec in all its glory! Bernard Labadie conducts a selection of baroque works by some of the greatest composers of the time, including Vivaldi’s celebrated and joyful Gloria. With the outstanding choristers of La Chapelle de Québec, this program will delight all choral music lovers.
