Over more than 20 years as a recording artist, the jazz piano phenomenon Hiromi has shifted seamlessly from one spellbinding project to the next. In the process, she’s earned a reputation as one of the most explosive live performers in jazz history and a global ambassador for the art form. Her many triumphs include an NPR Tiny Desk Concert that has racked up over 2.5 million views; the opportunity to represent her native Japan with a performance at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo; a 2024 win for Best Music Score for the animated feature film Blue Giant (Award of the Japanese Academy); and a Grammy Award for a collaboration with fusion hero Stanley Clarke. Her artistry is—to borrow a descriptor The New Yorker favored—“dazzling.”

Hiromi brings back her Trio Project in Fall 2026, with a new recording and new tour. Here, she reunites with English drummer Simon Phillips (Jeff Beck, Judas Priest, Tears for Fears, Toto, The Who). “It is always an amazing experience to be able to work with Simon,” says Hiromi. Joining them onstage is bassist James Genus (Herbie Hancock, Whitney Houston, Roy Haynes, Chick Corea, Daft Punk, SNL).

One of the most celebrated artists in American history, the brilliant and always innovative Herbie Hancock returns to Hill Auditorium in a limited tour that promises to bring his signature mix of freewheeling, thought-provoking, and mind-expanding jazz and funk. A true icon of modern music, Hancock has transcended limitations and genres while maintaining his unmistakable voice, and there are few artists in the music industry who have had more influence on acoustic and electronic jazz and R&B.

An Evening with Herbie Hancock

University of Michigan

Whether he’s collaborating with the Los Angeles Philharmonic as Creative Chair for Jazz or dialing in outer-space sounds on his keytar, Herbie Hancock is always on the move. Since making a splash with the Chicago Symphony at the age of 11 – when he played the soloist’s role for a Mozart piano concerto – and winding through his time as a member of Miles Davis’ legendary Second Great Quintet, he has become one of the most revered and innovative musicians in jazz history. His restless reinventive spirit has found him exploring African music, funk, classical, electronic music, hip-hop, and more. He returns to the Hollywood Bowl stage for a night of freewheeling and thought-provoking jazz.

Now in the seventh decade of his professional life, Herbie Hancock remains where he has always been: at the forefront of world culture, technology, business and music. Herbie Hancock has been an integral part of every popular music movement since the 1960's. As a member of the Miles Davis Quintet that pioneered a groundbreaking sound in jazz, he also developed new approaches on his own recordings, followed by his work in the 70s — with record-breaking albums such as "Headhunters" — that combined electric jazz with funk and rock in an innovative style that continues to influence contemporary music. "Rockit" and "Future Shock" marked Hancock's foray into electronic dance sounds; during the same period he also continued to work in an acoustic setting with V.S.O.P.

Tulsa Performing Arts Center

In his 26-year history with the series, he has thrilled audiences with “expansive, free-ranging, densely textured performances” (Chicago Tribune) and a devotion to evolving the genre through “cross-pollination, adventurism and faith in what’s ahead” (The New York Times).
