Debra Nagy takes the spotlight in a lively Vivaldi oboe concerto, while Kathie Stewart and Alan Choo lead a fiery chamber performance of Bach’s Orchestral Suite no. 2. Viola da gambist HyunKun Cho steals the thunder in Marais’ famous Sonnerie de Sainte Geneviève, an imaginative showpiece evoking the sounds of church bells in Paris.

Late summer nights are for passion, romance, and sometimes… fiery duels. Join us for a red-hot concert of “dueling” double-concertos, inspired by the art of fencing! Highlights include J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins; René Schiffer’s thrilling Tango Concerto for Two Violas da Gamba; a colorful suite by Rameau; and Telemann’s Concerto for Flute and Recorder, with its famous Polish folk-inspired finale. AF principal players including concertmaster Alan Choo take turns stepping into the spotlight in this evening of dazzling agility.

This heartwarming program from Jeannette Sorrell follows the hopes and fears of the Irish who bravely crossed the Atlantic, bringing their music with them. Irish singer Fiona Gillespie joins with fiddlers, medieval harp, hammered dulcimer, and bagpipes in this communal celebration of the American immigrant experience – welcoming Christmas with LOVE, SINGING, DANCING, and PRAYER.
