Into this certainty comes her younger self, forcing the older Victoria to confront memories she’s chosen to bury and truths she’s decided to forget.

When Dre and Des meet as sixteen-year-olds, anything is possible. The world is wide open and the emotions are bombastic. They share dreams, closeness and their first great love. Many years later, they meet again. They are now thirty-two. Dre has stayed, Des has moved. Everything has changed, and yet the bond between them remains.

In an interplay between then and now, between memory and reality, their shared history unfolds. What happens when the past collides with the present? Does their love belong to the past, or is it still here?

In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth begins the play as the driving force who ruthlessly plans and implements regicide. But she soon disappears from the action and re-emerges in the last Act, guilt-ridden, hallucinating and tormented by sleep deprivation. What happened? Zinnie Harris imagines what might be the gaps in Shakespeare’s story, undoing the play as we know it and retelling it with Lady Macbeth at its center.
