Strauss and librettist Hugo von Hofmannsthal reimagine the Helen myth, set in the aftermath of the Trojan War, as a tale of doubling: a phantom Helen returns to Troy, while the real, faithful Helen has been spirited away from harm. The vengeful husband, Menelaus, surrenders to love; the unfaithful Helen renews her devotion. The opera unfolds as a rich exploration of the complexities and contradictions of love, sexuality, and marriage.

Le Trouvère is an opera by Giuseppe Verdi, a French version of Il Trovatore. The story is about two brothers, separated at birth under tragic circumstances, who unknowingly become enemies. Manrico, has been raised as a troubadour, while the other, Count di Luna, grows up as a nobleman. Their rivalry leads to war, love triangles, and a tragic ending when one brother accidentally orders the execution of the other. They do not realise they are brothers until much later. Their rivalry becomes deadly, especially as both fall in love with the same woman, Leonora.

This new opera work by Hosokawa Toshio is staged as the third in Artistic Director Ono's series of commissioned works from Japanese composers. Hosokawa Toshio is a leading composer of contemporary music who has created commissioned work for the world's major orchestras, musical festivals and opera houses. Natasha is the first opera by Hosokawa to be staged at the NNTT since Matsukaze in 2018, as well as his second opera to be world premiered by Ono Kazushi, the first being Hanjo, commissioned by the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, in 2004.

**Synopsis:**
"Siegfried" follows the journey of its fearless titular hero, from his upbringing by the dwarf Mime to his ultimate awakening of Brünnhilde, weaving together the stories from "Das Rheingold" and "Die Walküre." With the forging of the broken sword Nothung, Siegfried embarks on a quest that leads him to confront the dragon Fafner, discover the power of the ring, and ultimately, find love.

The Ring Cycle, Wagner’s magnum opus, continues with Die Walküre, the second epic installment in the series. The daughters of Wotan, ruler of the gods, serve as Valkyries tasked with guiding the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla. But as scandal erupts, Wotan finds himself at odds with whom he most trusts.

Carmen is desirable, defiant, and driven. She thinks nothing of charming a soldier to escape a spot of trouble—never imagining that he would abandon his childhood sweetheart and desert his post to follow her.  But Don José is a jealous lover, and as Carmen begins a new relationship with the bullfighter Escamillo,  his passion turns dark—and deadly. 

Bizet's masterpiece arrives onstage in a brand-new production drenched in Spanish Gothic splendor, created by director/designer Thaddeus Strassberger. Domingo Hindoyan opens his inaugural season as Music Director with one of the world's most iconic scores.
