Add some soul to your Summer Fest experience by dropping in on Sunday to Urban Sanctuary, home of Neil MacPherson’s Hammond B3 organ.  The Hammond organ has played a unique role in integrating church and club to bring a vibrant, soulful sound to both.

Urban Sanctuary: Soulful Sunday

Horizons will feature a curated repertoire that celebrates the incredible talent of female and BIPOC composers. Through their compositions, we aim to shed light on the beauty, resilience, and unique perspectives of marginalized communities in our world. This quasi-theatrical presentation will include music by Rosephanye Powell, Jennifer Lucy Cook, and Corie Brown. The centerpiece for the program will be Ron Kean’s breathtaking “The Journey of Harriet Tubman,” with soloist Juanita Harris.

Wintertime serves as a reminder of the fragility of life, and that fragility is what makes it so precious. In that spirit, in collaboration with the San José Chamber Orchestra, this year’s Winter’s Gifts program reflects on journeys and will feature music that honors different faith traditions around the Bay Area. The repertoire will include music by Conrad Susa, Ola Gjeilo, Joby Talbot, and John Wineglass. Bay Area favorite and San Francisco Classical Voice’s Best Jazz Singer Juanita Harris will be a soloist in this program.
