The BSO and GRB Concerts present a musical celebration of the Bee Gees, from their highly successful early period in the 1960’s and 70’s, through to their career defining multi-award-winning soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever in 1977 which, alongside the film, made a ground-breaking contribution to pop culture across the globe. Throughout the 1980’s, they developed a highly successful reputation as writers and producers for other leading artists – the likes of Barbara Streisand, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, Frank Valli and Yvonne Elliman.

Well, ring-a-ding-ding! She was Hollywood’s first lady of song, the girl whose soaring voice could whirl you over the rainbow or make the whole screen light up with joy. He was the Chairman of the Board: a singer whose charisma broke the bank in Vegas and who made the Great American Songbook swing like never before. And for one night only they’re back – live in Nottingham as the BBC Concert Orchestra and conductor Richard Balcombe salute the movies of Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra.

Tonight’s tribute includes many of his most famous songs, including ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head’, ‘What The World Needs Now’, ‘Do You Know The Way to San Jose’, ‘Walk on By’, ‘Close to You’… he wrote the kind of tunes that you know without even realising it. They’re the soundtrack to an era – the easiest of easy listening, with an irresistible swing. Following on from the acclaimed celebration of Elton John with the Hallé last year, conductor Richard Balcombe and our star soloists guide us through the Bee Gees highly successful career: from the early period in the 1960s and ’70s, through to their career defining multi-award winning soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever in 1977, their burgeoning reputation as writers and producers for other leading artists in the ’80s to their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. You should, most definitely, be dancing.

With star singers from the West End and the full might of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra taking to the stage, get ready for hits from The Coral, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, OMD, Cilla Black, Elvis Costello, Ken Dodd, The Spinners, a little-known band called The Beatles, and many, many more.
