Singer

Giacomo Puccini composed his Il trittico as a triptych of one-act plays in which shudder, sadness and laughter are successively evoked. The three short operas are now being performed together for the first time at Dutch National Opera and are the culmination of the three-year Puccini series by conductor Lorenzo Viotti and director Barrie Kosky .

Verdi's Rigoletto tells the story of a father who imprisons his daughter in an attempt to protect her from his depraved employer, the transgressive womaniser Duke of Mantua. In vain, as it turns out when his daughter ultimately falls in love, is seduced and kidnapped.

With Die Frau ohne Schatten , composer Richard Strauss and librettist Hugo von Hofmannsthal created a layered fairy tale about two couples in search of meaning and new life in a cold and barren world.
