Marcos Morau’s « Nachtträume» was the Ballett Zürich highlight of the year in 2022, lauded as a «dance panopticon and abysmal Gesamtkunstwerk of dance, text, music, and impressive images» (NZZ). In his ninety-minute piece, the Spanish choreographer undertakes a disturbing nightmare journey with Ballett Zürich into the realms of power, powerlessness, and mindless allegiance. He succeeds in creating a profound analysis of the present, in which power and vanity, envy and greed for profit, social Darwinism and economic primacy all too often have us in a stranglehold.

NDT 1 presents two new creations by choreographers Marcos Morau and Yoann Bourgeois and presents one evergreen from the oeuvre of Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), Solo Echo (2012) by associate choreographer Crystal Pite.

The stage is dark. A tremor can be felt. Then music begins – more a collage of different sounds. A harmonica. The brief moment of a whistled melody. It is unmistakably the music of Ennio Morricone. The composer, who passed away in Rome in 2020, became famous above all for his film scores for classics such as ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST and THE MISSION. His distinctive and memorable compositions have long since transcended their films, turning Ennio Morricone into a global icon.
