The Tin Angel Opera, written to a libretto by Paul Pines and based on his widely acclaimed novel of the same name, with music by award-winning composer Daniel Asia, is set in the edgy world of a NYC downtown Bowery jazz club, where a unique cast of characters play out their dramatic story as a call for redemption.

Hear the stars of tomorrow in the Opera Company of Middlebury’s Young Artists Program production of Puccini’s hilarious one-act Gianni Schicchi. Eastman Opera Theater’s Pat Diamond directs a cast of 10 up-and-coming professionals and five local talents in a uniquely staged production in Town Hall Theater’s new Doug & Debby Anderson Studio. Coached and conducted by Yale Opera faculty YAP Artistic Director Alejandro Roca, Young Artists also understudy principal roles in the mainstage production of La Bohème and appear in the ensemble.

In a society at the height of decadence, where pop stars sing for despots’ birthdays, and even fools can be billionaires, it’s not only the prophets who are kept in cages. There’s one for each of us. In a decaying palace on the edge of the world, everyone is yearning for something to believe in. Sung in English to recapture the shock of Strauss’s scandalous classic, Heartbeat’s intimate new take features a fresh 10-instrument orchestration by Dan Schlosberg of one of Opera’s most extravagant scores.
