There is only one direction known to Alexandre Kantorow’s career, and that is up! Since winning the Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019, the young French pianist has ascended to the highest echelons of the global classical music scene like few before him. This evening is the crowning glory of Kantorow’s residence concerts during this Elbphilharmonie season and sees him come together on stage with some illustrious colleagues: the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal under the direction of Yannick Nezet-Seguin.

Experience the magic of Igor Stravinsky's groundbreaking ballet, "The Firebird," brought to life by the Philadelphia Orchestra under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. This performance promises an unforgettable journey through the mythical story of The Firebird, with its vibrant and revolutionary score that catapulted Stravinsky to fame. The ballet's complete score will be performed, offering audiences the full breadth of its musical and emotional range.

Joining the orchestra, First Associate Concertmaster Juliette Kang will enchant with her rendition of Béla Bartók’s Second Violin Concerto, a piece steeped in the composer's love for his homeland and tinged with the melancholy of its political turmoil. This concert not only showcases the technical brilliance and deep emotional connection of the musicians but also celebrates the rich tapestry of storytelling through music.

The Hamburg State Orchestra's Philharmonic Concerts become ZeitSpielen and transcend the boundaries of the ordinary: In this concert, Barbara Assiginaak's compositional interpretation of Max Bruch's sonic imagination will be heard - for the first movement of his Violin Concerto will be replaced by a new composition from her pen, inspired by the original. Bruch meets us today as a mirror of the past and at the same time, through Assiginaak, as part of the here and now!
