The Epic Adventures of Leonard & Rasmus: Myths, Legends & Heroes

Sunset Center

Take a stroll through the chamber music of French composer Lili Boulanger. The gentle opening of the Nocturne invites the listener into the lush sonic world of her music. The piano trio is taut and dramatic and is followed by a playful work for flute and piano. The showpiece is the sensuous song cycle of 13 songs for high voice.

All Saints' Episcopal Church

Music by Schubert, Beethoven, Razaz, Messiaen, and Rachmaninov. True passion requires patience, and this program explores patient passion and how it has been translated into music.

Patient Passion

Music that connects us, how thoughts, experiences, and feelings bring us together. This “sacred and profane” recital opens with a transcendent solo work and slowly progresses from spirit to human through fantasy, farce, and passion. This is perfect for new listeners and seasoned concertgoers.

Fresh Tradition: Sacred and Profane

¡Feliz nochebuena! ¡Feliz navidad! Join us at Navidad Nuestra (Our Christmas) to enjoy Christmas carols sung in the musical traditions of the composers’ homelands of Argentina, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the United States. From the locomotion of Cristian Grases’ El tren para Belén (Train to Bethlehem), the rhythms of cueca (a traditional dance rhythm from Argentina and Chile), carnavalito (a Bolivian folk dance), chacarera (a traditional dance from northwestern Argentina) in Ariel Ramírez’s Navidad Nuestra, Eric Whitacre’s peaceful and uplifting Glow, filled with lush harmonies and ethereal melodies, as if it is illuminating the darkness, to a world premiere by Ernesto Herrera, it's sure to be a magical evening filled with warmth and holiday spirit!

Walt Disney Concert Hall

Reena Esmail often says that her music exists between the worlds of Indian and Western classical music. You may have heard us perform Reena's work This Love Between Us or seen our music video for her piece TaReKiTa. This concert presents an in-depth look at the tapestry of Reena’s choral repertoire, paired with Frank Martin’s virtuosic a cappella masterpiece Mass for Double Choir, which will take you on a journey from personal religious devotion to a glorious confluence of inspirations including Renaissance polyphony, Bach, Venetian antiphony, and French Impressionism.

Esmail / Martin
