Our 24/25 Classics season kicks off on Saturday October 5th with a celebration of the mighty Forbes Organ at the PAC, with guest soloist, Felix Hell, performing the Belgian composer Joseph Jongen’s iconic Sinfonia Concertante for Organ and Orchestra from 1926.  We open with a magical dance from olden times, originally written for piano and later orchestrated by Maurice Ravel, his Menuet Antique. We conclude with Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 in E Minor op. 98 from 1883, a work of both sweeping gestures, soulful yearning and sublime passion.

Celebrate the beginning of the Madison Symphony Orchestra's 99th season with a concert that promises to unite and inspire through the power of music. Don't miss this extraordinary event!Umoja, the Swahili word for “unity” and the first principle of the African holiday Kwanzaa, is a beautiful way to bring us together again. We begin our 99th season journey with a work of the same name by African-American composer Valerie Coleman. Our Principal Organist, Greg Zelek, plays one of the great works for organ and orchestra, Jongen’s Symphonie Concertante. Tommy Mesa thrilled audiences with Greg on our organ series program and again as a soloist with the Symphony. He returns to perform Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme. Our first concert of the season wraps up with a suite from Manuel de Falla’s colorful, Spanish-flavored ballet, The Three-Cornered Hat.

Join us for an evening of exceptional trombone performance by Tim George, a talented Master of Music student at the Northwestern Bienen School of Music. This recital, part of his academic journey, showcases his skills under the tutelage of esteemed faculty members Michael Mulcahy, Randall Hawes, Reed Capshaw, and R. Douglas Wright. Accompanied by Zachary Hommel and Parisa Tofigh on trumpet, Gwen Boros on horn, Lola Stevenson on bass trombone, and Yoko Yamada-Selvaggio on piano, Tim George will present a captivating program. The repertoire includes Leopold Mozart's Concerto for Alto Trombone, Joseph Jongen's Aria et polonaise, Op. 128, Sergei Rachmaninoff's Sleep, Op. 38, No. 5, Launy Grondahl's Concerto for Trombone, and Leonard Bernstein's Maria from West Side Story, arranged by Jack Gale.

This event is scheduled for Friday, May 10, 2024, at 8:30pm CDT, in the Regenstein Master Class Room at the Bienen School of Music, 60 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston, IL 60208. The venue, known for hosting hundreds of performances yearly, offers seating for 200 guests in a space designed for intimate musical experiences.

Experience the majestic fusion of organ and orchestra at the Winspear Centre with the highly anticipated "Organ & Orchestra" concert. Conducted by the talented Carolyn Kuan, this event promises an evening of unforgettable musical brilliance on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 7:30 PM.

The concert will showcase a selection of works that highlight the power and beauty of the organ in symphonic music. The program includes Mendelssohn's "Symphony No. 4 Italian," a piece described by the composer as the jolliest work he has ever done, inspired by his travels to Italy. Joseph Jongen's "Symphonie concertante for Organ" will also be featured, offering a magnificent showcase for the instrument across a wide range of moods. Additionally, the concert will present Allan Gilliland's "Shadows & Light," a commission from the ESO in 2000 that explores unique orchestral textures.

This concert is a part of the Friday Classics series and will include an intermission. Featured artists include Carolyn Kuan, making her ESO debut as conductor, and Paul Jacobs on the organ, promising a night of exceptional musical artistry.

The Winspear Centre and Edmonton Symphony Orchestra are proud to host this event on Treaty 6 Territory, acknowledging the rich artistic and cultural traditions of the Indigenous Peoples of this land.
