Two of the most sought-after recitalists on the international stage join forces as Canadian violinist James Ehnes and American pianist Orion Weiss return to Koerner Hall.

Known for his virtuosity and probing musicianship, James Ehnes has performed in more than 35 countries on five continents, appearing regularly in the world’s great concert halls and with many of the most celebrated orchestras and conductors. Conductor, Shira Samuels-Shragg, hailing from L.A. makes her Masterworks debut with Dvořák’s spellbinding Seventh Symphony. Although his New World Symphony remains the most performed, his Seventh is often considered his most perfect symphonic work. Violinist Gabrielle Després joins us with Korngold’s lush Hollywood-inspired Violin Concerto, and we open with Quinn Mason’s joyous and festive Toast of the Town.

Masterworks 6: L.A. Stories

Experience the grand finale of the four-year series with "RACH & the Hollywood Sound" at the Santa Rosa Symphony. This captivating event will take place on January 11, 12, and 13, 2025, at the prestigious Weill Hall, Green Music Center. Under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Francesco Lecce-Chong, the symphony will perform an exhilarating program featuring music from iconic films such as "The Magnificent Seven," "Catch Me if You Can," and "Deception," with a special spotlight on SRS Principal Cellist Adelle-Akiko Kearns. The highlight of the evening will be Rachmaninoff’s "Symphonic Dances," his final orchestral masterpiece, promising a rollercoaster of emotions culminating in a profound sense of gratitude.

The event will showcase the talents of Francesco Lecce-Chong as conductor, Adelle-Akiko Kearns on cello, and Andrew Harrison on saxophone, performing works by Elmer Bernstein, Erich Korngold, John Williams, and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Traditionally, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra welcomes the New Year with an entertaining and sophisticated program in the festive ambience of the Wiesbaden Kurhaus - this time under the direction of the young Lithuanian conductor Izabelė Jankauskaitė . The "Assistant Conductor" of this season's Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, who first attracted international attention in 2022 by winning the Neeme Järvi Prize from the renowned Gstaad Conducting Academy, will present a rousing musical program based on the Viennese waltz with the Brazilian violinist Guido Sant'Anna as part of the "Wiesbaden Master Concerts".

Classical composers and literary types have long been drawn to Hollywood's glamour, glitz, grime, and grit. With their newest program, Mirror Visions Ensemble celebrates the influence and inspiration of movies with songs that pay homage to “the silver screen” — a cultural beacon for generations. The program will premiere MVE's latest commission, Griffin Candey’s Silver Songs with poetry by Rae Armantrout, Richie Hofmann, Rebecca Hoogs, Jeanne Murray Walker, Kate Northrop, and Frank O’Hara. The program includes a “mirror vision” (the same text set to music by different composers) with Howard Moss’ hilarious poem “Horror Movie” in songs by Chris DeBlasio and William Flanagan. The program gives a glimpse of Bertolt Brecht and Hanns Eisler’s disdain for Hollywood, provides melodic morsels of Erich Korngold’s film scoring, and commemorates Humphrey Bogart, Lana Turner, and other Hollywood royalty.
