Patricia Leonard’s My Dearest Friend offers a touching glimpse into the letters of John and Abigail Adams, leading into Copland’s powerful Lincoln Portrait, narrated by Rev. Alvie Young. Contemporary voices shine in Laura Karpman’s All American and Ivan Trevino’s Run to the Light, featuring MTS Principal Percussionists Sherry Rubins and Paul Millette. The concert closes with patriotic favorites, joined by members of the United States Air Force Band of the West.

A spotlight on Clarksville’s next generation of performers, this special event features The Nutcracker with dance students from Classic Steps II, a side-by-side performance with the GCO and the Clarksville Youth Orchestra, and an acoustic set by Clarksville’s emerging singer/songwriter Mattie Lyn. The spirited orchestration of Gould’s Cowboy Rhapsody, filled with yodels and cowboy calls, is complemented by two works by Behzad Ranjbaran. Concertmaster Nikki Chooi masterfully leads Beethoven’s monumental Violin Concerto in D major, celebrated for its improvised cadenzas.

Headlining this all-American program is the red, white, and blue Rhapsody in Blue that Gershwin described as a sort of “musical kaleidoscope of America.” Inon Barnatan “fine music-making wedded to astounding technique” (The Washington Post) stars in this beloved American classic, an effervescent mix of jazz and classical music. The composer himself was at the keyboard at the premiere, and the audience went wild with enthusiasm, propelling this concerto to iconic status. Angélica Negrón’s gripping work for orchestra, chorus and four soloists is an elegy for lost sounds and incorporates birdsong, whale calls, sounds of forests and oceans. It is not to be missed!

The unique spirit of our nation has been the source of inspiration for countless writers and composers through the years. ETSO brings two of those voices to the stage for a concert celebrating America in music. The words of American icons, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, take center stage for two works: The speeches and writings of our 16th president give voice to Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait. And Composer Aaron Dworkin has used the life and words of America’s first president, George Washington, as the source of his work The American Rhapsody.  Dworkin, himself, will serve as narrator for the ETSO performance.  The concert also features special appearances by vocal and instrumental ensembles from Texas College and Jarvis Christian University, performing with the ETSO.

Celebrate Independence Day in grand style with the York Symphony Orchestra at the July4York 2024 event! This FREE concert promises an unforgettable evening of patriotic music and community spirit at WellSpan Park, located at 5 Brooks Robinson Way, York, PA 17401. Mark your calendars for Thursday, July 4, 2024, and be ready to join the festivities as the gates open at 8 pm, right after the thrilling baseball game between the York Revolution and the Lancaster Stormers concludes.

The concert will kick off at 8:30 pm and run until 9:30 pm, featuring a spectacular lineup of music including Gould's "American Salute," Sousa's "Hands Across the Sea," a George M. Cohan Medley, Williams' "Liberty Fanfare," and many more, culminating in the powerful "1812 Overture" by Tchaikovsky. This one-hour symphony and chorus performance, enhanced by select York Youth Symphony Orchestra students, is set to be the highlight of York’s biggest July 4 party. 

After the musical journey, stay for the dazzling fireworks display, lighting up the night sky in celebration of our nation's independence. A pair of dances that illustrate two distinctive aspects of Jerome Robbins’ artistry highlight this diverse program. Interplay, first seen in 1945, features music by Morton Gould, and was described by one critic as “the foundation of an American mid-forties classic style.” Other Dances features just two dancers in a display of sweeping, occasionally folk-inflected ballet technique. The Robbins pieces are joined by newer works: Pam Tanowitz’s Gustave le Gray No. 1 is performed to a score for solo piano by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw, its title a tribute to the 19th-century French artist known for his innovations in the nascent medium of photography. And Justin Peck’s Year of the Rabbit, his second dance for the Company, marked Peck’s first collaboration with the singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens.

Join us for an unforgettable evening at the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra's Pops Concert, showcasing "Music of the Americas." This vibrant concert will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Delaware Valley University's Life Sciences Building, located at 700 East Butler Avenue, Doylestown, PA 18901. The evening begins with a pre-concert reception at 6:00 PM, followed by the main performance at 7:30 PM.

The concert program features an exhilarating selection of works by Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein, as well as a variety of pieces from Latin America's most esteemed composers. Highlights include Bernstein's Overture to West Side Story, arranged by Maurice Peress, José Moncayo's Huapango, and Copland's iconic Variations on a Shaker Melody from Appalachian Spring, among others. This diverse lineup promises to deliver a night of captivating music that celebrates the rich musical heritage of the Americas.

Ticket options include General Admission for the concert only at $25, free Student Admission for those under 18 (concert only), and Premium Admission for $100, which includes both the concert and the reception. Premium Admission is exclusive to patrons 21 years and older and features hors d'oeuvres, beverages, and a special meet-and-greet with Maestro Domínguez, who will discuss the evening's repertoire.

Parking is available in the lots adjacent to the Life Sciences Building, with handicap spots provided. For added convenience, a shuttle bus service from the University’s Main Entrance off Butler Avenue to the Life Sciences Building will start at 5:30 PM.

A native of Los Angeles, Norman Krieger is one of the most acclaimed pianists of his generation and is highly regarded as an artist of depth, sensitivity and virtuosic flair.  As the Los Angeles Times put it “Krieger owns a world of technique-take that for granted.  He always knows exactly where he is going and what he is doing.  He never for an instant miscalculates.  He communicates urgently but with strict control.  He is alert to every manner of nuance and at every dynamic level his tone flatters the ear.”

Jerome Robbins is considered one of the most important ballet makers of the 20th century and his unmistakeable style has had a decisive influence on American dance. Interplay, his second choreographic work, premiered in 1945 in New York, provides a rousing opening to the four-part programme American Signatures that combines dance icons with current choreographic voices.

Performed to Morton Gould’s jazzy score, Interplay presents precisely what its title suggests: as if in a playground, the dancers meet, full of fun, but also competing with each other in Robbins’ choreography, that employs jazz elements to enrich the classical ballet vocabulary and with which the theatre maker and dance artist created one of the works that had a formative influence on his aesthetic.
