Continuing Education Brass Ensemble Recital

San Francisco Conservatory of Music

Students from the local high school band programs will join members of our Knox-Galesburg Symphony for a weekend of music-making and collaboration. This unique opportunity allows students to learn from and play alongside our principal musicians, fostering a supportive environment for music education. The performance will celebrate the annual Music in our Schools Month, hosted by the National Association for Music Education.

Join the Gaylord Community Orchestra for an enchanting evening as we inaugurate our 2023/2024 Season with the "Sounds of Autumn" concert on October 21, 2023, at 7:30 PM. This special night will feature the extraordinary talents of Guest Artist Brad DeRoche, who will perform the mesmerizing Guitar Concerto No. 1 in D by Castelnuovo-Tedesco. In addition to this captivating concerto, the orchestra will delight audiences with the Elgar Serenade for Strings and Schubert's 3rd Symphony, showcasing the depth and versatility of our musicians.

To enhance your concert experience, we invite you to join Maestro Van Eizenga for a Pre-Concert talk at 7:00 PM, offering insights into the evening's program and the opportunity to deepen your appreciation of the music.

Tickets are available at the door for $15 for adults, while students can enjoy the concert for free. Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate the start of a new season with the Gaylord Community Orchestra and experience the magic of live music.

Primarily for non-music majors who desire a concert band experience, the University and Campus Bands are open to the entire U-M community and offer a great opportunity to enjoy an immersive musical experience and to learn from SMTD’s renowned faculty. The University Band is the most advanced non-music-major band and placement is by audition. Campus Band is open to any student with experience.

The Symphony’s Season Finale explodes with Richard Strauss and his monumental storytelling. The Symphony’s powerful brass section is on display, from the composer’s Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare to the cinematic grandeur of his Alpine Symphony featuring 34 brass players. Amaryn Olmeda returns to Des Moines for Mendelssohn’s beautifully melodic Violin Concerto.
