Renowned vocalist Mahesh Kale, beloved for the intense beauty of his expressive voice, blends the intricate ragas and rhythms of Indian classical music with the improvisational spirit of jazz. His musical collaborator is George Brooks, whose soulful saxophone and deep understanding of Indian music create a dynamic dialogue between the two genres. Jazz virtuoso George Brooks and Indian classical music star Mahesh Kale once again bring their popular collaboration to the Stanford Jazz Festival, reuniting to blend jazz energy and Indian ragas and rhythms in a performance that transcends cultural and musical barriers. Mahesh’s voice is incredibly beautiful, and his mastery of Indian classical music is astonishing — but his connection with George opens the door to unbridled creativity. George is one of the top jazz musicians around, but his life-long devotion to Indian classical music adds a dimension to his interactions with Mahesh that is full of joy. Mahesh and George are joined by four fantastic musicians, all of whom are pioneers of a variety of musical fusion: Utsal Lal, the Raga Pianist; Mayookh Bhaumik, tabla master and electronic music master; Julian Coryell, guitar virtuoso and son of the late Larry Coryell; and Scott Amendola, the legendary Bay Area drummer.
