After Mozart and Beethoven established the piano as an essential force in classical music, Russian and French Romantic composers took the instrument to the next level. Yet these distinct cultures sought profoundly different sounds: Anton Arensky and Sergei Rachmaninov bared the powerful soul of Russia, while Gabriel Fauré and Claude Debussy reveled in ethereal pleasures. Debussy’s iconic Jeux (Games) for orchestra is performed by eminent French pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet (who arranged the work for two pianos) and Van Cliburn Competition prizewinner Anna Geniushene.

Experience the enchanting melodies of Easter Island's only professional classical musician, Mahani Teave, in her debut U.S. concert tour at the Perelman Performing Arts Center. This special performance took place on September 28th at 7:30 pm, marking a significant moment in the Opening Celebration of PAC NYC. Mahani Teave, an award-winning pianist known for her chart-topping debut album and her role as a pioneering artist and humanitarian, presented an evening filled with the works of Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, and featured premieres by Chilean composers José Miguel Tobar and Alejandro Arévalo.

The recital, which ran for 95 minutes including a 10-minute intermission, was not just a showcase of Teave's natural pianism and genuine virtuosity but also a journey through her sincere, pure, and magnificent artistry, as praised by BBC Music Magazine. The program was divided into two parts, featuring classics from Johann Sebastian Bach, Frederic Chopin, Franz Liszt, and Sergei Rachmaninov, alongside the ancestral melodies of Rapa Nui brought to life through Tobar's "I hē a Hotumatu’a" and Arévalo's "Suite Rapa Nui."
