Béla Fleck, a 15-time GRAMMY Award winner, has revolutionized the banjo by exploring its versatility across various genres. Abigail Washburn, a singer-songwriter and clawhammer banjo player, has redefined the instrument by infusing it with Far East cultural sounds. Together, they will perform selections from their GRAMMY-winning self-titled debut album as well as their latest record, "Echo in the Valley."

Join us for a captivating evening of music and memory at the Perelman Performing Arts Center with our special event, "Childhood Songs: Memory as Refuge," happening on September 23rd at 8:00pm. This unique concert is part of the Refuge series, designed to welcome the world through the universal language of music, offering a sanctuary of safety, comfort, community, and regrowth.

"Childhood Songs: Memory as Refuge" brings together an impressive lineup of multi-talented artists, including the Grammy Award-winning Alphabet Rockers, the soulful sounds of Armo, Broadway star Shoshana Bean, legendary musician José Feliciano, acclaimed pianist Daniel Gortler, the vibrant Trinity Youth Chorus, the innovative Abigail Washburn, and the critically acclaimed Michelle Zauner. These artists will share stories and songs from their childhoods, connecting the present to the past and helping us navigate the unseen path to the future.

Curated in collaboration with Trinity Church Wall Street and with programming consultant Annie Ohayon, the event is directed by Sarah Benson. The concert promises to be a night of new musical memories, launching a future full of thrilling performances at PAC NYC.

Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn have a musical partnership like no other. Fleck, an nineteen-time GRAMMY® Award-winner, has the virtuosic, jazz-to-classical ingenuity of an iconic instrumentalist and composer with bluegrass roots. His collaborations range from his most recent release and celebrated return to bluegrass, My Bluegrass Heart, to his groundbreaking ensemble, Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, to concertos for full symphony orchestra and an exploration of the banjo’s roots across Africa. Abigail Washburn is a GRAMMY® Award-winning singer-songwriter and clawhammer banjo player who has drawn critical acclaim for her solo albums and has done fascinating work in folk musical diplomacy in China.
