‘Waterloo”, “Mamma Mia”, “Dancing Queen”, “Thank You For The Music” - these are just some of ABBA’s greatest hits that the DSO will perform on 16 November in the Town Hall. Since winning the Eurovision Contest 50 years ago, the world has ‘danced and jived’ to ABBA’s songs, and the songs live on in the “Mamma Mia” films too.This is Dunedin’s chance to enjoy them performed live with the full force of symphonic backing by the DSO.

Experience a one-of-a-kind performance from a leading voice in spontaneity, exploration, and deep-rooted expression. Vocalist, composer, and lyricist Faye Victor presents Life is Funny That Way live at Dizzy’s Club. The April release pays imaginative homage to the late Herbie Nichols, legendary pianist, composer, and improviser. Her project “seeks to combine improvisation inside and outside of the compositions, playing up the pure joy inherent in Nichols’ music.” Don’t miss this vitalizing event that features Michael Attias, Anthony Coleman, Ratzo Harris, and Tom Rainey.

Dizzy’s Club welcomes South Korea-born bassist and composer Jeong Lim Yang, performing music from Zodiac Suite: Reassured (2022, Fresh Sound), her latest release combining radical improvisation with traditional idiom which pays homage to Mary Lou Williams’ classic 1945 recording. Yang’s sets feature distinctive treatment from her brilliant trio-mates, Argentinean pianist Santiago Leibson and renowned New York-based drummer Tom Rainey. Expect an evening of open-ended expression inspired by one of the most influential records to emerge from the bebop era.
