Modeled after the nineteenth century oratorios by Mendelssohn, “The Three Holy Children” by Irish composer Charles Stanford is a dramatic oratorio about the period of the captivity of the Jews under Nebuchadnezzar, and the miracle of the preservation of the Three Holy Children, who, for refusing to worship Bel, are cast into the fiery furnace by order of the Assyrian monarch.
