Experience the grandeur of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec in a captivating concert set to take place on April 9, 2025, at 8:00 PM at the Grand Théâtre de Québec. This event, part of the Les Mercredis classiques Hydro-Québec and Festival Beethoven, promises an evening of profound musical exploration and celebration.

Under the baton of Clemens Schuldt, the concert will feature the esteemed Les Violons du Roy and the powerful voices of Eya-Hey Nakoda, a group of pow wow singers and drummers, bringing a unique blend of cultural sounds to the stage. The musical direction will be led by Anders Hunter, with solo performances by soprano Kirsten MacKinnon, mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne, tenor Lawrence Wiliford, and baritone-bass Robert Gleadow, alongside the Chœur de l’Orchestre symphonique de Québec under the guidance of David Rompré.

The evening will commence with a prelude at 7:00 PM, hosted by Clemens Schuldt, offering insights into the creative process and historical context of the pieces to be performed. This will be followed by pre-concert performances featuring emerging musicians from the Conservatoire de musique de Québec and the Faculté de musique de l’Université Laval.

The concert's repertoire includes the Ouverture de La Reine des îles noires by Anton Eberl, a contemporary of Beethoven, showcasing the composer's pre-romantic fervor. This will be followed by a commissioned piece by the Orchestre symphonique de Québec from composer Katia Makdissi-Warren, and culminating in Beethoven's monumental Ninth Symphony.
