From Bartók’s passion for learning and collecting the music of his Hungarian homeland to Bloch’s inspiration from both Jewish religious and secular music, and Vaughan Williams’s love of arranging new English discoveries for orchestra, composers have always been fascinated by folk music; learning about it, popularising it and weaving it into their work for orchestra. Much of what you will hear in this concert has its roots in folk music familiar to and beloved by the featured composers and it makes for a vibrant and dramatic evening of music – you might even spot a local favourite!

Join us for an enchanting evening of music at the Community Strings Spring Concert, presented by the Jackson Symphony Orchestra. The program for the evening is a carefully curated selection of classical pieces that are sure to captivate and inspire. The lineup includes Edvard Grieg's "Holberg Suite 1884," Ralph Vaughn Williams' "5 Variants of Dives and Lazarus w/Harp 1939," Antonio Vivaldi's "Mandolin Concerto in D 1725" featuring the talented Robert Phillips as the mandolin soloist, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Divertimento in D Major 1776," and John Rutter's "Suite Lyrique 1979" with Belle Coty enchanting us on the harp. The concert will also feature additional pieces, promising a runtime of one hour filled with beautiful music.

We are thrilled to showcase guest artists Belle Coty, a versatile harpist known for her wide-ranging contributions to the music community, and Bob Phillips, a renowned mandolin player, author, composer, and educator. Both artists bring their unique talents and passion for music to this special event, enhancing the concert experience for all attendees.
