AMOC* celebrates Latin American poets and the voices of women with its production of John Adams’s El Niño: Nativity Reconsidered, featuring a libretto by Peter Sellars and production conceived by AMOC* soprano Julia Bullock, with a return to The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine for a third year.

As part of its Uptown Nights music series, Harlem Stage collaborates with Harlem-based Sugar Hill Salon — one of the first chamber music series and artistic collectives that centers on black and brown woodwind artistry in classical music — and Concert Artists Guild —which has, since 1951, launched the careers of hundreds of emerging classical artists and ensembles — to curate an evening of chamber music performed by musicians from each organization’s ranks including Sugar Hill Salon’s Alexander Davis (bassoon) and David Valbuena (clarinet),, and Concert Artists Guild’s Adam W. Sadberry (flute),  and Fei-Fei (piano).

Join us for a delightful family event featuring Alexander Davis and Friends at Caramoor on July 14, 2023. This special concert, designed for our littlest audience members, begins at 11:00 am in the Education Center Family space. 

Bassoonist Alexander Davis, a celebrated teaching artist at Caramoor, will introduce children to the enchanting sounds of his woodwind instrument. Alongside his talented friends, Davis will explore the vibrant world of music, making this an unforgettable experience for all. This interactive series encourages children, ages 2-6 and their caregivers, to sing, wiggle, and dance to a variety of musical styles in a welcoming and flexible environment.

This performance is particularly accommodating for children who are neurodivergent, have sensory sensitivities, or those who simply appreciate a more relaxed concert setting. Attendees can expect modifications such as relaxed house rules and additional space for movement, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Learn more about Alexander Davis, a New York City-based bassoonist known for his poise and élan. Davis is deeply committed to creating space, connection, and community within classical music. He has an impressive performance history, including playing in the first all-black orchestra at Carnegie Hall with the Gateway Festival Orchestra in April of 2022.
