Two of today’s most exciting pianists join forces for a wide-ranging program of works for two pianos and piano four hands. Individually, Yuja Wang and Víkingur Ólafsson constantly surpass even the loftiest expectations, earning worldwide renown while exploring some of the piano repertoire’s most formidable works. With this new collaboration, they unlock a world of programmatic possibilities. Experience Rachmaninoff’s own two-piano arrangement of his Symphonic Dances; the breathtaking Fantasie by Schubert; Thomas Adès’s arrangement of one of Nancarrow’s “impossible” studies for player piano; and exhilarating works by innovators such as Brubeck, Ligeti, Berio, John Adams, and Arvo Pärt.

This performance is not only a celebration of the piano but also a journey through the landscapes of classical and contemporary music, brought to life by the unparalleled skill of Ólafsson and Wang. Lauded for her charismatic artistry, emotional honesty and captivating stage presence, Wang is a regular with the world’s top symphony orchestras and was named Musical America’s Artist of the Year in 2017. An acclaimed visionary interpreter of such monuments of the piano repertoire as J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Ólafsson has received Opus Klassik’s Solo Recording Instrumental of the Year twice since his debut with Deutsche Grammophon in 2017.
