Enigmatic and unfinished, Bruckner’s Ninth Symphony combines the unshakeable faith and creeping doubt of a composer reaching the end of his life.

Bruckner said of his final symphony, ‘And now I dedicate my last work to the majesty of all the majesties, the beloved God, and hope that he will give me so much time to complete the same.’ For all Bruckner began composing his Ninth Symphony almost a decade before his death, sadly it was ultimately left unfinished, interrupted by the reworking of nearly all his previous symphonies.

Join us for a monumental celebration of 200 years of Bruckner at the Town Hall, Birmingham, on Sunday, 13 October 2024, at 4:00pm. The program draws inspiration from Renaissance Rome, showcasing the timeless elegance of Palestrina and the ever-popular Miserere by Allegri, known for its soaring soprano lines.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale opens the 2024-2025 season with Sing Joyfully | 60th Anniversary Celebration Concert, which features a cappella pieces from the Renaissance to present day. The concert opens with William Byrd’s ebullient Sing Joyfully, and the Chorale will take Byrd at his word by joyfully singing choral showpieces by Anton Bruckner, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla.
