Join us for an unforgettable evening as JoAnn Falletta, celebrated by The New York Times as one of the finest conductors of her generation, graces the Waikiki Shell with her presence in the much-anticipated event, "JoAnn Goes to the Opera." This special concert is scheduled for Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

In her new role as Conductor Emeritus, Falletta will lead a performance featuring selections from the operatic canon, including excerpts from Wagner’s monumental Ring Cycle and Strauss’s exquisite Suite from Der Rosenkavalier. The evening promises to be a showcase of operatic grandeur, with performances that capture the essence of these classic compositions.

Adding to the excitement, the concert will also feature a performance by the talented Celina Lim, a cellist and winner of the 2023 Nā Hōkū Ōpio Young Stars music competition, highlighting the future of classical music.

The program for the evening includes Wagner's "Excerpts from The Ring of the Nibelung," featuring pieces such as Wotan's Farewell, Forest Murmurs, and Siegfried's Rhine Journey, followed by an intermission. The second half of the program will present Tchaikovsky's "Variations on a Rococo Theme" and conclude with Strauss's "Suite from Der Rosenkavalier," promising a night of emotional depth and breathtaking beauty.
