In the festive atmosphere of Wiesbaden's Kurhaus, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt) traditionally welcomes the new year with an entertaining and artistically first-class program – this time under the direction of the young Belarusian conductor Vitali Alekseenok. Alongside the well-known overture "The Bartered Bride" by Bedřich Smetana, the "Wiesbaden Master Concerts" will also feature the unconventional Cello Concerto by Friedrich Gulda, performed by the internationally acclaimed young cellist Anastasia Kobekina, as well as Zoltán Kodály's "Dances of Galánta" and Maurice Ravel's "La valse."

Once upon a time… Love Story. Love… a passionate and oh-so-human impulse. The common thread of our destinies. The one for which we live and die, the true driving force of all existence. For centuries, no subject has so inflamed minds as love. The Ensemble Émeraude, formed within the OPRL, explores its various aspects through works by German, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, and Russian composers. The concert is passionately presented by Stéphane Dado, art and music historian and OPRL Project Manager.

Under the baton of the esteemed conductor Xian Zhang, making her Music Academy debut, this concert promises to be a highlight of our summer season. Xian Zhang, celebrated for her dynamic conducting and innovative programming, serves as Music Director of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and holds prestigious positions worldwide. Her leadership for this performance is eagerly anticipated, promising an evening of exceptional music-making.

A program that goes against all conventions with the charismatic conductor Constantinos Carydis. Dance is the focus, and Carydis himself plays the piano - supported by the hr concertmasters Florin Iliescu and Maximilian Junghanns. And there is a violin concerto to experience that goes beyond any norm. Robert Schumann's D minor concerto is a special case. While the composer celebrated the pure joy of life with his "Rhenish Symphony", three years later he lets us look into the depths, perhaps into the abysses, with the violin concerto. It is a completely unconventional, even visionary late work, an exotic island in the midst of the all too ingratiating, beautiful sound concerts of that time. Only a few violinists dare to dance on the volcano - the Japanese Sayaka Shoji is one of them. Her career began at the age of 16 when she won the Paganini Competition in Genoa in 1999. She is the youngest prizewinner to date. She grew up in Italy and Japan, studied in Cologne and now lives in Paris. And she never wanted to be a dancer, but an opera singer – "but I had a very quiet voice. In a way, learning the violin was an alternative, which is why singing became a very important element in my playing."

Experience one of the greatest violinists of our time: James Ehnes, celebrated for his admirable virtuosity and profound musicality. The Canadian musician will perform Dvořák's Violin Concerto, which unites Romanticism and Bohemian folk music in perfect balance. Zoltán Kodály's "Dances of Galánta," with their fiery Hungarian temperament, sound a kindred spirit. The program, conducted by Slovak conductor Juraj Valčuha, concludes with Prokofiev's last symphony, in which melancholic depth and powerful drama merge into an unforgettable soundscape – music that guarantees goosebumps.
