"Five Ways to Die" Opera Premiere

Join us for the world premiere of "Five Ways to Die," a groundbreaking opera event presented by Experiments in Opera. "Five Ways to Die" is the latest creation from the minds within Experiments in Opera’s Writers’ Room, a program initiated in 2019 that fosters collaboration between composers and librettists. This opera challenges traditional notions of authorship by bringing together multiple composers and librettists to craft a large-scale work that reflects the values of inclusivity and community collaboration. Previous works from the Writers’ Room include "Sisyphus 2017," "Aqua Net & Funyuns 2020," and "Everything For Dawn 2022."

This opera features a chamber ensemble of five musicians and a cast of six singers, employing maximalist aesthetics to explore themes of poison, plague, magical portals, and the ever-present shadow of death. The performance will include contributions from the following segments:

- "Water Prayer" with libretto by Marcella Murray and composition by Seong Ae Kim
- "Valhalla Valley Mall" with both libretto and composition by Jason Cady
- "MISCHIEF or RATHATTAN" with libretto by Britt Hewitt and composition by Jesse Gelaznik
- "Serials Killers and The City" with libretto by Joanie Brittingham and composition by Del’Shawn Taylor

The talented cast includes Alize Rozsnyai and Rose Hegele as sopranos, Melisa Bonetti Luna and Lisa Neher as mezzo-sopranos, Kannan Vasudevan as tenor, and Seth Gilman as baritone. The musicians bringing this opera to life are Eileen Mack on clarinet/bass clarinet, James Moore on electric guitar, Tristan Kastin-Krause on acoustic/electric bass, Joe Bergen on vibraphone/percussion, and Matt Evans on drumset.

The production team is led by conductor Dmitry Glivinskiy and stage director Shannon Sindelar.

Through her interactions with the dummy, we explore her journey of mastering ventriloquism during her adolescence and the dramatic turn of events when her obsession leads her mother to take her to an exorcist. This opera boasts the creative talents of Jason Cady (Libretto and Composition), Sarah Daniels (Soprano and Electric Guitar), and Shannon Sindelar (Direction), produced in association with Alter Ego Chamber Opera.

2. **Soul’s Unscreened**: Step into the future with the first act of an installation opera that delves into the life of a computer scientist during the Covid-19 pandemic. This narrative explores her development of groundbreaking AI technology and her attempts to upload her consciousness to the cloud. The opera features a rich tapestry of talent, including Roger A. Martinez (Composition and Electronics), Alize Francheska Rozsnyai (Libretto and Soprano), Tom Sitzler (Baritone), Kaitlyn Tierney (Mezzo-Soprano), and Sepehr Pirasteh (Conductor), alongside a skilled ensemble of musicians.
