This inspiring play, written by Catherine Bush, tells the true story of Emma Gatewood, a 67-year-old mother and grandmother who embarked on an extraordinary journey. One spring day, Emma told her family she was going for a walk, leaving out the detail that her walk would span over 2,000 miles through 14 states. Her adventure made her the first woman to solo through-hike the newly formed Appalachian Trail, marking a significant moment in hiking history.

"Grandma Gatewood Took a Walk" is not just a play; it's a wildly theatrical adventure that follows Emma and all the individuals who played a part in her incredible journey. The production brings to life the challenges and triumphs Emma faced, offering audiences a glimpse into the resilience and determination of this remarkable woman.

The production features a talented cast including Mary Lucy Bivins as Emma Gatewood, John Hardy as PC Gatewood/et al., and is directed by Nicholas Piper. The creative team brings the story to life with scenic design by Derek Smith, costume design by Lee Alexander Martin, lighting design by Camille Davis, sound design by Bobby Beck, and music composed by Ben Mackel. Ashley Campos serves as the intimacy coordinator, ensuring the respectful and safe portrayal of sensitive content.
