Trinidad-born trumpeter, composer, and storyteller Etienne Charles embarks on a captivating musical journey that explores the rich history and culture of the Gullah Geechee people, drawing parallels to his Caribbean heritage. Joined by the masterly percussion of Quentin Baxter, a Charleston native and Festival favorite, Charles weaves a mesmerizing sonic tapestry. The varied compositional textures and pulsating rhythms evoke a trance-like state, inviting listeners to explore the deep connections between Afro-Caribbean, Gullah, and American jazz traditions.

Last season, trumpet master, inexhaustible band leader, and fashion icon Etienne Charles lit up The House of Swing with his Appel Room performance of Carnival: The Sound of a People. Now, he returns to Dizzy’s Club leading his Creole-inflected big band featuring master practitioners from across the globe. Expect a spirited set of new music designed to pull every listener of every generation from their seat to their feet.

Join us for an unforgettable evening with the Or Bareket Quartet on May 28, 2024, at Joe's Pub. Doors open at 9 PM for a 9:30 PM show. Experience the unique blend of cultures and sounds as Or Bareket, an acclaimed bassist known for his lyrical and rhythmic prowess, leads a quartet featuring some of today's most talented musicians. Born in Jerusalem and raised between Buenos-Aires and Tel-Aviv, Bareket brings his diverse heritage into his music, creating a rich tapestry of North African, Iraqi, Latin-American folklores, and Black American music.

The quartet, consisting of alto saxophonist Godwin Louis, pianist Jeremy Corren, and drummer Savannah Harris, promises an evening of intricate compositions and exceptional performances. Celebrating the release of their third album, SAHAR, and anticipating their next project produced by Joel Ross, this performance is not to be missed.

Tickets are priced at $20 in advance and $25 at the door, with a 2 drink or 1 food item minimum per person.
