Rome trembles under Scarpia’s iron fist. Only the diva Tosca dares defy him – but in a corrupt world, love is no match for power. This high-stakes love story, with its sweepingly romantic score, is staged at Glyndebourne for the first time.

The opening cast includes Caitlin Gotimer as Floria Tosca, Matteo Lippi as Mario Cavaradossi and Vladislav Sulimsky as Baron Scarpia, with Robin Ticciati conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

The second cast will be conducted by Jordan de Souza and will feature Natalya Romaniw as Floria Tosca, Atalla Ayan as Mario Cavaradossi and Alfred Walker as Baron Scarpia.

The first of its kind ever written, this mariachi opera by José “Pepé” Martínez and Leonard Foglia marries two musical worlds with one thing in common: each finds its fullest voice in the telling of moving tales, and Cruzar is no exception. After leaving his wife and son in Mexico to find work in the United States, Laurentino is torn between distance and duty. Decades later, and with days to live, he looks back on how the choices he made became the secrets he kept, with consequences that will redefine what it means to be a family. With sorrowful serenades, Cruzar creates a seamless musical merger that spans the distance of its cultural differences with sublimely bittersweet songs that make full use of their enhanced ability to take an emotional toll. Grammy-award-winning mariachi band Mariachi los Camperos will perform with Lyric Opera of Kansas City in this production.

Experience the culmination of a multi-year collaboration with Sandbox Composer-in-Residence Gabriela Lena Frank, the SPCO and The Great Northern. As a composer, Frank’s body of work centers climate change, community, and the role of the artist in stewarding change in the face of a heating planet.

Her Sandbox premiere is similarly ecologically fixated, ruminating on the legacy of John James Audubon, the French American writer and ornithologist who inspired the modern conservation movement. In collaboration with poet and librettist J. Drew Lanham, whose essay “What Do We Do About John James Audubon?” inspired this project, Frank grapples with the idea of complicated legacies, the “consequences of entangled histories,” and how they shape the present. In this new song cycle for baritone and chamber orchestra, Ballad of John James Audubon and the Runaway: An American Tragedy Ignored and Retold, Frank and Lanham tell the lesser-known story of Audubon and his legacy of racism.
