Haydn’s Symphony is a whirlwind, while Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto encompasses sweetness, melancholy and drama—with a bit of cheekiness too. The concert ends with a beginning: the delightful overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, sending you home with a smile on your face.

And one of the most alluring sounds of Classical period instruments is created by the clarinet. World-renowned clarinetist Thomas Carroll delivers the silken and velvety sonorities of Mozart's Quintet. And no work from the Classical era has ever eclipsed the sheer excitement and brilliance of Mendelssohn's breathtaking Octet.

Classical Genius

Formed in 2019, the ensemble – whose name takes and combines the first two letters of each player’s surname – consists of three long-term collaborators who enjoy playing together as much as their own individual careers. Two beloved works from the late-Romantic period – Brahms’s piece from 1854, revised in 1889; his protégé Dvořák’s from 1876 – form the programme.
