Join us for an unforgettable evening as David Hayes conducts Bernstein with The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia for the 24/25 Season. This remarkable concert will take place at the Perelman Theater, located within The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts at 300 S Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19102. The performances are scheduled for Friday, November 22, 2024, at 7:30 pm and Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 2:30 pm.

Under the baton of Music Director David Hayes, the orchestra will present a program that celebrates the music of three 20th-century geniuses, all influenced by the vibrant city of New York. The evening will feature Kernis' Musica Celestis, Bartók's Divertimento for String Orchestra, and Bernstein's Serenade after Plato’s Symposium. The latter, a violin concerto written for Isaac Stern in 1953, remains one of Bernstein's most cherished works. Performing this masterpiece is violinist Sandy Cameron, renowned for her brilliant interpretations of 20th and 21st-century repertoire.

The concert promises to be a tour de force, exploring the themes of love and art through the lens of Bernstein and his contemporaries. With a duration of 80 minutes, including an intermission, it's an event not to be missed by classical music enthusiasts and those looking to experience the profound beauty and complexity of these iconic compositions.

Beethoven’s ‘Pastoral’ Symphony is a hymn of wonder and gratitude to the natural world, combining captivating nature portraits with sounds to move and inspire.  

Hungarian-born Péter Eötvös surrounds the audience with music in his ravishing Aurora, dreamt up while contemplating the Northern Lights aboard a plane high above Alaska. The SCO’s own Principal Double Bass Nikita Naumov – a deeply charismatic player – is Aurora’s expressive soloist. Wigglesworth launches the celestial explorations with US composer Aaron Jay Kernis’s otherworldly evocation of the songs of angels.
