This compelling programme is headlined by the world premiere of Critical Mass by the prominent American-British composer Tarik O’Regan and Mozart’s Solemn Vespers.

Critical Mass, a work commissioned by Wimbledon Choral, centres around the coronation Agnus Dei which was first sung at the coronation of King Charles III. It reflects the spirit of the coronation, combining solemnity and tradition with a sense of vibrant new beginnings.

A mixed choir that is open to any U-M student, the Arts Chorale is a musical and social group that has existed at the University for over 60 years. Although affiliated with SMTD, most members are not music majors.

Experience Orff’s Carmina Burana in a new chamber orchestration that heightens its raw, percussive energy, alongside Tarik O’Regan’s Critical Mass. A powerful contemporary mass created around his Agnus Dei first sung at the 2023 Coronation of King Charles III in Westminster Abbey, it is shaped by texts that move from anger and forgiveness to light, belief, and peace. A world premiere by GRAMMY Award–winning composer Starr Parodi adds a spark of discovery to this bold opening night.
