An all-star band including saxophonist Javon Jackson, trumpet giant Eddie Henderson, and Miles Davis band alumnus Lenny White unite for concert #3 of the Miles Davis Centennial Celebration, looking back to the trumpeter’s epochal hard bop ensembles of the 50s and 60s. This salute to Miles’s hugely influential mid-career music includes material associated with his first quintet of the 1950s with John Coltrane and Red Garland, the iconic 1959 sextet session Kind of Blue, and the exploratory 1960s second quintet with Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock featured on the Columbia Jazz masterpieces Miles Smiles, Nefertiti, and E.S.P., among others.

Echoes of an Era was a stunning jazz album released in 1982, featuring Chaka Khan, Chick Corea, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Stanley Clarke, and Lenny White. With timeless standards like “All of Me,” “I Hear Music,” and “I Loves You, Porgy,” this project showcased Chaka’s incredible versatility as a vocalist and earned her a Grammy nomination in the jazz category.

At 19, Lenny White played with Jackie McLean, recorded Bitches Brew with Miles Davis, and Red Clay with Freddie Hubbard. Lenny is one of the founding fathers of the jazz-rock movement and is a four-time Grammy Award winner. Lenny White earned a worldwide reputation as the drummer with Return to Forever and has played and collaborated with artists such as Joe Henderson, Gato Barbieri Gil Evans, Stan Getz, Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, and Chaka Khan.

Legendary bassist Buster Williams leads his Something More quartet. The Guardian calls Williams one of the great acoustic bassists, and JazzTimes states Williams resume ranks with that of any bassist in the modern era. It’s a resume that includes working with Gene Ammons and Sonny Stitt when he was 17; backing singing legends Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughn and Nancy Wilson in the 60s; anchoring Herbie Hancock s Mwandishi sextet into the 70s; and co-founding the Timeless All-Stars and Sphere after that. As important as he is as a bassist with his virtuosic technique and an unmistakable sound, he is equally known for his compositions and bands, which The New Yorker hails as modern, mainstream at its best.
