UK conductor-composer Jack Sheen makes his debut with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in a free evening concert at the BBC’s Maida Vale studios, with new works from younger composers concerned with the environment. Finnish composer Ville Raasakka’s Black cloud, under ground recreates field recordings made in an abandoned coal mine underneath a town in Pennsylvania, where in 1962 a fire broke out in an abandoned coal mine. Toxic smokes slowly began to seep into the homes of the residents, and people were relocated in 1984. The fire will continue to burn for an estimated 200-250 years. We invite you to the album launch with a talk about the recording, tonight's repertoire, and a video about the journey to the completed album before the concert at 6:15 PM.

Øyvind Torvund (b. 1976) wrote Two symphonic poems for the Oslo Philharmonic, which premiered them with Vasily Petrenko in 2019. The first poem is called Morning in the forest− a scene where the forest wakes up to idyllic birdsong but is gradually taken over by traffic and noise. Torvund wants to create an organic soundscape in the music without using authentic sounds from nature. The second piece, A Trip into the Future, begins with a march and a whistled melody that illustrates that someone is going on a trip. On the way, the walkers meet robots and many more unknowns.
