Fiery, exciting music that will warm you up includes Fawkes the Phoenix from John Williams’ score for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, a rhythmic Conga del Fuego, The Infernal Dance from Stravinsky’s The Firebird and the theme from Chariots of Fire. Along the way there’s a musical trip on the Polar Express and a Troika (sleigh ride) courtesy of Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kije, plus the Dance of the Tumblers from The Snowmaiden, the Skater’s Waltz and Let it Go from Frozen.

This evening, the BBC Philharmonic is joined by students of the RNCM for a special side-by-side performance at MediaCityUK, with a programme focussing on composer Helen Grime’s work. The concert, which forms part of the RNCM’s In Focus series, features three pieces by Grime, interspersed with the work of talented RNCM composition students.

Across three events each year, these concerts offer a front-row seat to fearless, original music fresh off the page, shaped by a city and conservatoire rooted in the radical legacy of the Manchester School.
