Described by The New Yorker as “adventurous and passionate,” Ukrainian-American pianist Inna Faliks, makes her BroadStage solo debut with an eclectic program of works from Beethoven, Billy Childs, Ravel, Clara Schuman, and more. Faliks will also premiere two new contemporary works.

A thunderclap which begins a piano concerto. A symphony anxiously written over 21 years. A first performance of a new work commissioned by the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra by an “interdisciplinary artist … not constrained to logic and reason.” These are the ‘new frontiers’ the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra will explore in this program.

Join our five composition students for an evening of world premieres. Each composer will share a brand-new work to be performed by the Curtis Symphony Orchestra. The program opens with Maya Miro Johnson’s Bruises, featuring pianist Katelyn Bouska, a poetic work that explores invisible wounds, time, and trauma. Adrian Wong’s Eulogy for a Fallen Tree, a concerto for two bassoons and contrabassoon, traces the life of one of these majestic, human-like beings from a humble seed to its collapse in a thunderous roar.

Summer Broadcast Series: Orchestral World Premieres

All Longy students present full recitals as part of their education and ongoing evolution as artists. They are charged with thinking critically about what stories they tell, whose voices to amplify, and who’s in the room for their event while also considering how to use performance spaces in innovative ways and how to truly engage audiences and create interactive music experiences.

Clara Schumann’s passionate and rarely heard G Minor Sonata joins “Manuscripts Don’t Burn,” a piece written for Faliks by Maya Miro Johnson, and the live world premiere of Julia Adolphe’s “Three Magnetic Etudes” for piano. The stormy fugues and shimmering trills of Beethoven’s transcendent last piano sonata Opus 111 round out Inna Faliks’s program of pieces that search for meaning through what might have been, and what is yet to be, looking ahead toward an innovative and daring future.
