The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WSO) is set to commence its 95th anniversary season with a concert that promises to be a vibrant celebration of its storied legacy. Under the baton of Music Director John Devlin, the evening will feature a diverse repertoire that spans centuries and styles, reflecting the orchestra's rich history and its ongoing commitment to musical excellence. The program includes the Overture to The Barber of Seville by Rossini, a piece that harks back to the WSO's inaugural season in 1929, alongside contemporary works like Clarice Assad's Baião n’ Blues. The concert will also showcase the talents of eight WSO musicians as soloists, highlighting the exceptional skill within the orchestra. Pieces such as Mahler's 4th Movement from Symphony No. 4 and Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins in B Minor will be performed, offering a blend of classical and modern compositions. This event not only honors the WSO's past but also celebrates significant figures in the Ohio Valley's musical community, making it a poignant tribute to the symphony's enduring impact.
