The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra's second Masterworks concert of the season, "ATTENTION with Chris Thile," pays homage to Appalachian musical traditions with a captivating blend of classical and contemporary compositions. The evening features the extraordinary talents of Grammy Award-winning mandolinist Chris Thile, known for his genre-defying musical prowess and innovative compositions. Thile will perform his new concerto, "ATTENTION," a narrative song cycle that showcases his virtuosic mandolin skills in a dynamic collaboration with the orchestra.

The program also includes "In the Beginning" by Brittany J. Green, a North Carolina-based composer whose work brings a fresh, modern perspective to the concert. Verdi’s "Overture to La Forza del Destino" adds a touch of operatic drama, harking back to the WSO’s inaugural season. Additionally, Leonard Bernstein’s "Three Dance Episodes from On the Town" will be performed, celebrating the legacy of Wheeling native Everett Lee, a pioneering Black conductor who made significant contributions to the world of classical music.

Under the baton of Music Director John Devlin, an ardent advocate for American music and innovative concert design, the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra promises an evening of rich musical storytelling and exceptional artistry. Devlin’s leadership and vision continue to elevate the orchestra, making this concert a highlight of the season.
