According to legend, Giuseppe Tartini received the inspiration for his highly virtuosic Devil's Trill Sonata in a dream – from none other than the devil himself. It goes without saying, then, that it is literally devilishly difficult. Fortunately, however, in star violinist Ray Chen, an artist whose breathtaking technique is more than equal to the work is on stage. And he is in excellent company: the Amsterdam Sinfonietta certainly needs no introduction. In Béla Bartók's sparkling Divertimento for String Orchestra, the top Dutch ensemble lets the mischievous humor of the Hungarian grandmaster sparkle. And after the interval, the audience can expect not only Pietro Locatelli's Concerto Grosso, but also Ray Chen again, who is sure to rock the hall with the tango impressions of Astor Piazzolla's "Cuatro estaciones porteñas."

Many internationally acclaimed artists, such as Angelika Kirchschlager, Till Fellner, and Patricia Kopatchinskaja, made their debuts as part of Musica Juventutis. This year, we present Leonhard Baumgartner, an up-and-coming violinist who made his debut with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra at the age of 15. With this series, the Vienna and Blaibach concert halls are continuing a collaboration made possible through the generous support of Dr. Burkhard and Gabriele Gantenbein.

He dedicated his 3rd Symphony to Napoleon, the general who was exiled to the island of Elba. The festive concertos by the Italians Locatelli, Manfredini and Torelli, along with Albinoni's tender Adagio, are an integral part of the Christmas season not only in Italy. In Austria, too, the high holidays in the Christian calendar were a busy time. Michael Haydn left behind more than thirty masses, including the Missa Sancti Aloysii composed in 1777 for his "dear choirboys" from the Salzburg Kapellhaus for the memorial day of the Holy Innocents on December 28th, as well as his last completed work, the Missa Sancti Leopoldi. The motet by the Spanish composer Tomás Luis de Victoria and the a cappella choir "The Angels and the Shepherds" by the Hungarian Zóltan Kodaly round off the program. "Developing one's own sound world and being able to express emotions in sounds" has been an important concern of the cellist Manuel Fischer-Dieskau for several years. The title of his new composition "He who sits on the throne laughs" comes from the 2nd Psalm and for him builds "a mental/visual bridge to the ever-laughing Franz Xaver Ohnesorg", to whom he dedicates this composition in loving memory.

The crowning glory is the enchanting Spiegel im Spiegel; not only the most performed work by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, but also one of the top hits in the Klara Top 100 for years. Together with violinist Elise Bertrand, Casco Phil invites his audience on a meditative journey through history, in search of inner peace and beauty.
