Associate Artist Jonathan Scott, presents a rare opportunity to hear a complete live performance of his solo organ transcription of Pictures at an Exhibition. Mussorgsky’s iconic score, featuring Catacombs, Gnomes and Old Castles, culminates in The Great Gate of Kiev, and will use every capability of the magnificent pipe organ of The Bridgewater Hall.

The pipes of the Bridgewater Hall organ get a full wash, wax and valet tonight with a performance characterised by Romantic splendour. Saint-Saëns’s spectacular Third Symphony takes us on a dramatic journey from darkness to light, and gave us the theme music to the iconic pig-based classic, Babe.

Brothers Jonathan & Tom Scott perform a programme of duos for piano and organ, demonstrating the full range of sounds and colours available from this brilliant combination with a programme of well known classical works in the duo’s own virtuosic arrangements.

Their online performance videos have totalled well over 80 million views and are among the most watched in the world.


Our season opener throws a bright spotlight on orchestral power, bringing together a classic ballet score, a stunning pair of showpieces for violin, and a tour de force for orchestra and organ. Stravinsky’s Petrushka was one of the trio of great Ballet scores that established his reputation at the beginning of the twentieth century. Set at the St Petersburg Shrovetide Fair it tells the tale of its ill-fated puppet hero through some of the composer’s most evocative and moving music – practically a concerto for orchestra with a virtuoso piano part. The piano features prominently, too, in Saint-Saëns’ ever popular Third Symphony, this time with two pianists racing around the exhilarating finale before the organ adds some spine-tingling grandeur into the mix.
