In Francis Poulenc's "Peasant Concerto" from 1928, the harpsichord, which had disappeared since Mozart's time, experiences a magnificent resurrection. With its melodic charm and fragrant grace, the piece seems to dream itself back to the French Rococo era – albeit with gentle irony. Charles Gounod's "Funeral March for a Marionette" – a piano sonata that the composer later transcribed for orchestra – must have appealed to Alfred Hitchcock greatly: It became the theme song for the series "Hitchcock Presents." As thrilling as a crime thriller, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's tone poem about "Scheherazade," who used fairy tales to keep her husband, King Shahryar, from killing her, is as captivating as a Arabian Nights.

At the center are the opera singer Floria Tosca, her lover, the artist and freedom fighter Mario Cavaradossi, and the cruel, all-powerful police chief Scarpia. A triangle drama created for Stubø's minimalist and deeply personal direction.

On the intimate stage of the Folkoperan, Tosca becomes a gripping, intimate study of passion, abuse of power, rebellion and terror. A deadly drama with the opera singer Tosca and Puccini's incomparably beautiful music at its center.

The Royal Playhouse and The Old Stage

Experience young talents and tomorrow's stars when the Old Stage serves as the venue for this year's concerts featuring vocal soloists from the Royal Danish Opera Academy and young symphonists from the Royal Danish Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra. The program includes arias and ensembles from some of the most beloved operas.

The music from Infruset-Själens scrubbsår is based on Mando Diao's celebrated album in Swedish with settings of Gustaf Fröding's poems in the collection Strövtåg i hembygden. (The song which in 2022 also received the award " Svensktoppen's best song of all time"). The Song Treasure from the production includes Karin Boye's poetry, Mikis Theodorakis' powerful music and also music/texts by Björn's parents Hans Dixgård and Malin Holmlin. In the center is Björn Dixgård, who shares the stage with the iconic Arja Saijonmaa, the mello shooting star Jacqline and our young talent Hugo Hybinette Ermedahl from Malmö.
