With his exceptional talent, massive career, and glorious, transcendent works, Johann Sebastian Bach is the undisputed father of classical music – but lesser known are his many brilliant contemporaries. Principal Baroque Leader Julia Wedman and Symphony Nova Scotia pay homage to Bach’s friends with music from Telemann, Fasch, and Pisendel, plus Pachelbel’s iconic, world-famous Canon. And, of course, hear Bach’s mighty creations – our premiere of the spectacular Concerto for Three Violins, an orchestral arrangement of the famed Goldberg Variations, and the delightful Suite No. 3, including the achingly beautiful “Air on the G String”, one of world’s most famous pieces of music.

Even though Bach and Telemann lived at the same time, wrote in similar genres, and knew each other – they were born in the same year and their paths crossed many times – their musical styles differ. Explore this contrast in a program that highlights why both composers remain impressive today, led by harpsichordist Steven Devine, best known for playing with the critically-acclaimed Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Experience the artistry of two musical titans in a program that radiates with charm. The timeless melodies of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart meet the grandeur of George Frideric Handel. From the beloved Eine kleine Nachtmusik to the shimmering pairing of flute and harp in Mozart’s enchanting concerto, alongside Handel’s graceful harp concerto and majestic overtures, this program celebrates the wit and splendour of the Baroque and Classical eras.
