Celebrating its 50th season, RCO makes a case for a chamber orchestra of the 21st century with fresh pieces by Carlos Simon, Malcolm Arnold, and renowned film score composer Danny Elfman alongside a strings feature by Bartok from RCO’s first season, and a showcase for winds by Strauss foreshadowing his great operas.

Arnold’s music was renowned for its amazing humour and emotional warmth – qualities that radiate through Matthew’s music in abundance. In the year of Matthew’s 60th birthday, we show our gratitude for Matthew’s dedication to continuing the British symphonic tradition by performing his latest symphony, commissioned by the Malcom Arnold Trust in 2021.
