Highlights from opera and oratorio masterpieces by Puccini, Verdi, and Mozart

Through music, saxophonist, composer, and educator David Hodgson explores compassion and poetic spontaneity. Since graduating the University of Toronto’s Jazz Performance Program in 2021, David continues to establish himself as an ambitious and lyrical artist in Toronto’s vibrant music scene. Music has been an important part of David's life from age 5, and participation in the 2017 National Youth Jazz Combo, the 2016 Berklee Jazz Workshop, and the 2015 and 2016 Conn-Selmer Centre-Stage Jazz Band inspired deep appreciation of Black American Musical traditions and passion for sonic expression.

Harry Bartlett is a Canadian guitarist and composer. With a background in jazz and an affinity for Americana music, Harry’s compositions “transcend a single genre” (Textura). Blending an improvisational approach with old time, folk, and western influences, his music is at once recognizably nostalgic and markedly fresh.

The orchestra’s selections will feature an array of Christmas melodies, including favorites such as Sammy Cahn’s “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!”, and the classic “Sleigh Ride “. Children in the audience will be delighted by “Here Comes Santa Claus” and selections from the Polar Express, as well as by a special visitor from the North Pole! This concert will also feature our own Ridgecrest Mayor Eric Bruen narrating a beautiful winter journey through the Lapland countryside. Other special guests will include vocalist David Hodgson, Burroughs Madrigals, Methodist Men’s Choir, The Ridgecrest Youth Symphony, and guitarist Jeff Welsh.
