Harris is known as much for her eloquently straightforward songwriting as for her incomparably expressive singing.  Admired through her career for her talent as an artist and song connoisseur, Harris shook up country radio in the 1970s, and established herself as the premiere songwriter of a generation selling more than 15 million records and garnering 14 Grammy Awards, three CMA Awards, and four Americana Awards.
Harris is one of the most admired and influential women in music. She has recorded with such diverse artists as Linda Ronstadt, Daniel Lanois, Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, Gram Parsons, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Roy Orbison, Ryan Adams, Beck, Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, Lyle Lovett and Rodney Crowell. Few artists have achieved such honesty or have revealed such maturity in their writing. Forty years into her career, Harris continues to share the hard-earned wisdom that—hopefully if not inevitably—comes with getting older, though she’s never stopped looking ahead. 
A longtime social activist, Harris has lent her voice to many causes.  Most passionately to animal welfare.  In 2004 she established Bonaparte's Retreat with the goal of rescuing shelter dogs and adopting them into forever homes. To this day, Bonaparte's Retreat continues to save dogs most in need at Metro Nashville Animal Care and Control and at municipal shelters in surrounding counties.

Emmylou Harris is the winner of 14 Grammys, recipient of the Polar Music Prize, and a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Though she launched her career in the same Greenwich Village folk scene that gave rise to Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, she found her voice in California, where she became a mainstay of the burgeoning cosmic-country scene in the 1970s, writing, singing, and performing alongside The Flying Burrito Brothers and Gram Parsons. As a solo artist, she would become one of the most celebrated singers in country music, releasing acclaimed albums like Elite Hotel, Luxury Liner, and Roses in the Snow. Her ability to shape what The Guardian called “one of music’s most revered voices” around the subtlest changes in a song, and to endow them with an incredible depth of emotion, has made her a constant influence on generations of singers, songwriters, and country musicians throughout the years. She makes her return to Walt Disney Concert Hall for the first time since 2005 for what promises to be an unforgettable evening.

For more than half a century, Emmylou Harris has been one of the United States’ most distinctive singers, her quavering soprano epitomizing new sounds in country music. Though she had already made albums of her own, Harris reached new audiences—and instantly cemented her legend—when she connected with Gram Parsons for a series of immortal duets in the early ’70s. From Evangeline to Wrecking Ball, from her Trio albums with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt to her supporting harmonies on dozens of iconic records, Harris is one of music’s most accomplished interpreters of song. After a 2015 appearance alongside longtime collaborator Rodney Crowell, Harris now makes her Spoleto with a band of her own.
