Guest conductor Ludovic Morlot conducts Stravinsky's high-octane ballet score Petrushka, with dazzling instrumental effects and orchestral oomph. Also, the acclaimed Grant Park Chorus joins the orchestra for two marvelous choral rarities by Brahms and Kodály.

The dramatic dynamism of the duo form is spotlighted in the first half of this program, which features two vastly different works: Mozart’s perfectly crafted Duo in G Major, performed by violinist William Hagen and violist Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt, and Kodály’s thrilling and demanding Duo for Violin and Cello, played by Leila Josefowicz and Paul Watkins. Mozart is featured again in the second half, as his exquisite Clarinet Quintet showcases the soaring artistry of clarinetist David Shifrin and the Escher String Quartet.

The incomparable Yo-Yo Ma, beloved by SPAC audiences, returns to perform Dvořák’s Cello Concerto under the baton of conductor Xian Zhang. Opening the evening are two SPAC premieres by composers Nokuthula Ngwenyama and Zoltán Kodály.

Experience the profound intensity and emotional depth of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 at the Winspear Centre, a highlight of the ESO Classics series. This concert, taking place on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 7:30 PM, promises an unforgettable evening under the baton of the esteemed conductor Jean-Marie Zeitouni. 

The concert features the award-winning Canadian pianist Jaeden Izik-Dzurko, making his ESO debut with Rachmaninoff’s challenging masterpiece. Known for its technical demands and rich musicality, the Piano Concerto No. 3 is a pinnacle of the piano repertoire, offering a thrilling showcase for Izik-Dzurko's exceptional talent.

The program also includes Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kijé Suite, his pioneering work in film music that captures the essence of storytelling through its vibrant and evocative themes. Completing the evening is Kodály’s Peacock Variations, a mesmerizing set of variations based on a traditional Hungarian folk tune, showcasing the composer's deep connection to his cultural roots.
